IHI Corporation has developed a pilot thermal utilization system that converts surplus DC power at solar power plants into carbon-free steam, demonstrating stable system performance. The system economically and flexibly converts renewable electricity into thermal energy, particularly useful for solar plants. A test project at Soma City sewage disposal plant in Fukushima Prefecture involved installing a solar plant, conditioner, and thermal storage electric boilers. The system efficiently absorbs DC power and has plans for market expansion.
