A study by researchers from UCL and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) suggests that existing fossil fuel projects can meet anticipated energy demands in a global transition to net zero emissions. The policy paper argues for a 'no new fossil fuels' policy to achieve climate goals, based on analysis that shows existing fossil fuel capacity is sufficient and new projects are unnecessary. The research recommends halting new schemes for fossil fuel exploration and power generation to focus on renewable and clean energy investments for a 1.5°C-aligned world.
