German companies The Mobility House and Green Energy Storage Initiative SE have set up a joint venture to build large-scale battery storage systems in Germany. They plan to develop up to 8 GW of storage capacity by 2035, targeting projects at grid-supporting locations and former conventional power plants. The first project will have 250 MW of storage capacity, with an additional 500 MW in a second stage. The companies will develop, construct, operate, and maintain the sites, with GESI responsible for financing and project coordination. The Mobility House will handle marketing the batteries in European power and balancing energy markets.
