Researchers at the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) in India have developed an innovative method to recover lead from end-of-life silicon photovoltaic panels. The process, described in a recent publication, involves a three-step method of selective leaching, extraction by precipitation, and calcination to transform lead into a less toxic form as lead monoxide (PbO). This new method not only reduces environmental contamination but also produces PbO that can be used in various industries, offering both environmental and economic benefits.
