U.S. scientists develop air-bridge thermophotovoltaic cells with 44% efficiency

Thermophotovoltaics (TPV) technology uses thermal radiation to generate electricity in photovoltaic cells. Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed TPV cells achieving 44% efficiency, addressing optical and thermal losses. The study published in Joule describes an air-bridge InGaAs device with improved performance.
