Unsubsidized solar installations rise by 68% in India in Q1

India saw a significant increase in new open-access solar capacity installations in the first quarter of 2023. Karnataka led in capacity additions followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The pipeline for open-access solar projects stood at 6.4 GW as of March 2023. Decreased project costs and attractive PPA prices drove capacity additions. The cumulative installed solar open-access capacity reached 8.3 GW by March 31, 2023. Priya Sanjay, managing director at Mercom India, noted the growing demand from industries and commercial units for reducing energy costs.
