US tariffs on solar cells remain, volume increases

U.S. President Joe Biden issued a proclamation to hold tariffs on crystalline silicon PV cells at 14.25% while allowing up to 12.5 GW to be imported. Solar tariffs in the U.S. date back to 2018 when signed into law by former President Donald Trump, aiming to limit imports and boost the domestic solar supply chain. The IRA of 2022 further supported the domestic solar supply chain. The American Alliance for Solar Manufacturing Trade Committee raised concerns about dumped goods from China affecting U.S. manufacturers. The proclamation aims to support U.S.-made solar cells while addressing competition from imports of crystalline silicon PV cells.
