An international team of researchers developed a high-throughput platform named MicroFactory for discovering high-performance organic solar cells using digital twin technology and roll-to-roll printing. They fabricated and analyzed 11,800 non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) organic PV devices in 24 hours, developed 1,200 devices with improved PCEs through machine learning, and achieved champion efficiencies of up to 9.35%. The study focused on modifying equipment for high-throughput PV cell fabrication, collecting and analyzing process parameters with digital twin models, and optimizing fabrication parameters for better performance.
