Virginia passes law to allow third-party solar financing

Virginia has seen significant growth in residential solar installations, with over 50,000 homes equipped. Recent legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly will allow for third-party rooftop solar leasing and prohibit requiring proof of liability insurance for interconnection. This law also ensures that customers using solar generators with BESS are exempt from standby charges, effective July 1, 2024. The Solar Energy Industries Association highlights the ongoing expansion in the solar market and its contribution to Virginia's goal of zero carbon energy by 2050.
