The Highland Council in northern Scotland is considering new large-scale battery energy storage systems that could add as much as 450 MW of storage capacity to the region. Three main projects by different developers are under consideration, contributing to sustainable infrastructure in the region. These projects align with the council's initiative to explore generating and storing its own power to meet climate change targets. Additional renewable energy projects have also been proposed in the Highlands. Changes in NSIP thresholds for energy projects in the UK and Scotland may impact future developments.
