The decarbonization of Gold Field’s gold mining operation in Western Australia is gathering pace with Aggreko expanding the existing renewable power system. The solar farm expansion will boost capacity to 19 MW of solar with a 9 MW/4.5 MWh battery energy storage system. Aggreko is integrating renewables with an existing gas power station to create one of Australia’s largest hybrid off-grid microgrids, projected to provide about 21% of the mine’s power requirements. Gold Fields aims to generate 75% of Granny Smith’s energy from renewables through increased solar, larger batteries, and potential wind farms.
