Aker Solutions has won a contract to design the underwater substations for the 2800MW Italian floating wind project Med Wind. Renexia, the developer, has signed a front-end engineering and design contract (FEED) with Aker Solutions for the scheme off Trapani in the Mediterranean Sea. Aker Solutions will work closely with ABB on designing eight modules for the Med Wind park. The energy produced by Med Wind will be transported to land via submarine and land-based cable ducts, arriving at the Partanna and Partinico power stations. The project aims to produce about 9TWh per year of clean energy, contributing 3% to the national energy demand of Italy.
