Renewable energy developer Apex Clean Energy secured a US$150 million financing deal with First Citizens Bank for two battery energy storage system projects in Texas. The projects, Great Kiskadee Storage and Angelo Storage, are expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2024. Great Kiskadee Storage is a joint venture owned by SA Grid Solutions, a collaboration between Apex, SK Gas, and SK D&D. Powin, an Oregon-based system integrator, is providing the BESS equipment for both projects. Powin is also collaborating with Apex on the Cameron Storage project in Texas for Ingka Investments. ERCOT is a significant BESS market in the US, with various major players making recent developments in the sector.
