Australia commissions first big battery at former coal site

French energy giant Engie and Eku Energy, with Macquarie Group, commission Australia's first big battery in Victoria's Latrobe Valley. The 150 MW/150 MWh battery, funded through joint efforts, operates on a former coal site. Hazelwood battery, Australia’s largest privately funded utility-scale battery, uses Fluence's Gridstack battery system. Energy Synapse founder highlights Australia’s first gigawatt of battery storage. The facility is set to increase hosting capacity for renewables.
