Australian grid operator to boost system strength with synchronous condensers

Transgrid, the operator of the New South Wales electricity transmission system, is facing challenges in maintaining grid stability due to the growth of inverter-based resources and exit of coal generators. This has led to an urgent need for new sources of system strength. Transgrid has outlined a report proposing solutions including synchronous condensers, battery energy storage systems, and modifications to existing generators and storage facilities. Multiple solutions will be required to ensure system stability in New South Wales.
