Australian utility AGL unveils new big batteries

Energy utility AGL plans to build a 500 MW battery next to the Tomago aluminum smelter in New South Wales. The company aims to add 12 GW of new wind, solar, and energy storage by 2035. AGL's CEO Damien Nicks highlighted key projects such as the 500 MW battery at Tomago, a 400 MW battery project in New South Wales, and a 500 MW project in Queensland, along with a 200 MW solar farm. AGL intends to increase its renewable energy generation to 8 GW by 2035 and grow firming capacity to 7.3 GW. AGL plans to exit coal-fired generation by 2035, with closures of Bayswater power station by 2033 and Loy Yang A power plant by 2035.
