Azerbaijan is in negotiations to expand natural gas exports to at least three European countries. President Ilham Aliyev revealed talks with potential new gas buyers, without specifying the countries. Azerbaijan currently supplies natural gas to eight European countries and aims to double exports by 2027. Discussions include facilitating gas transit through Ukraine to Europe after the expiry of a key agreement. Ukraine plans to replace Russian gas with gas from countries like Azerbaijan, allowing them to continue receiving transit tariffs while supplying Europe. Azerbaijan exported 24 billion cubic meters of gas in 2024, half to Europe with Italy being the latest buyer. Other buyers include Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, and Croatia.
