UK independent energy developer Balance Power has been granted approval for a 99-MW/99-MWh battery energy storage system in South Gloucestershire, England. The Iron Acton BESS project will store electricity to power 26,700 homes, offsetting 18,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Balance Power has multiple projects in development, including a 49.5-MW/99-MWh battery in southwest Leicestershire. The company aims to stabilise network frequency by storing power during peak production times and feeding it back into the grid.
