A battery energy storage facility is recommended for approval in Sunderland. The development by Newton Energi aims to store energy from renewables like wind and solar panels and release it during peak demand. The facility would have control rooms, storage units, and 28 battery storage containers. The site was selected for its proximity to Offerton substation. Similar schemes in Boldon Colliery face rejection due to fire safety concerns.
