Battery energy storage facility backed

A battery energy storage facility is recommended for approval in Sunderland by city planners. It will store energy from renewables like wind and solar panels and release it during periods of high demand. The facility, proposed by Newton Energi, will have a lifespan of 35 years. Plans for a similar scheme in Boldon Colliery were recently rejected. Concerns around fire safety have been raised amidst the increasing number of battery storage plants in the UK.
