Battery energy storage facility backed

A battery energy storage facility is recommended for approval in Sunderland by Newton Energi. The facility will store energy from renewables like wind and solar panels and release it during periods of high demand. The site was chosen due to its proximity to Offerton substation. Plans for a similar facility in Boldon Colliery were recently rejected. Concerns around fire safety have been raised regarding battery storage plants.
