Battery energy storage facility backed

A battery energy storage facility is recommended for approval in Sunderland by Newton Energi. The facility will store energy from renewables like wind and solar panels and release it during periods of high demand. The site chosen is close to Offerton substation. Plans include control rooms, storage units, and around 28 battery storage containers. The facility would have a lifespan of 35 years. Similar plans were rejected in Boldon Colliery. Despite opposition, battery storage plants are increasing across the UK.
