A battery energy storage facility is recommended for approval in Sunderland by city planners. The facility by Newton Energi aims to store energy generated from wind and solar panels for releasing during peak demand. The facility's site near the A19 was selected for its proximity to Offerton substation. Plans include 28 battery storage containers and control rooms.
