Bulgaria collects 111 mln. euro in windfall tax from energy firms in 2023

In 2023, Bulgaria collected 111 million euro from a windfall tax on firms in the oil, natural gas, coal, and petroleum products sectors. The tax was introduced to capture extraordinary profits following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Finance Ministry did not provide a breakdown of contributions, but it is expected that a significant amount came from Lukoil Neftochim and Lukoil Bulgaria.
