Canary Islands to host hybrid storage project for synchronous grid-forming

Elewit, the technology platform of Spanish grid operator REE, is building a system in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, to function as a virtual synchronous compensator. The system is part of the ViSync project, integrating a hybrid storage system with lithium-ion batteries and ultracapacitors to enhance renewable energy integration and grid stability.
