The Spanish government has approved a new royal decree to regulate sea-based renewables, focusing on offshore wind tenders. The decree introduces competitive bidding for offshore energy projects in specific zones, aiming to minimize environmental impacts and maximize job creation and industrial development. Projects will undergo evaluation based on criteria beyond pricing, with a focus on coexistence with other marine uses. The government aims to install up to 3 GW of floating wind capacity and 60 MW of other marine renewables by 2030 to stimulate economic development and create jobs.
