The Chilean ministry of national assets initiated a bidding process to lease public land for standalone energy storage facilities in northern Chile. Developers can choose from six sites in Tarapaca, Antofagasta, and Atacama regions, with specific substations at each site. The maximum storage capacity across all substations is 13.2 GWh. Successful bidders will receive a land concession for up to 40 years. The energy ministry will evaluate proposals until June 24, 2024. Minister Marcela Sandoval mentioned granting 32 concessions for renewable energy projects, contributing 6,500 MW to the national electricity system.
