Chinese firms exit Romanian solar tender amid EU scrutiny

The European Commission announced the exit of two Chinese-owned renewables developers from a public tender for a solar photovoltaic park in Romania due to an investigation under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation. The investigation aimed to address distortions caused by foreign subsidies and ensure fair competition for all companies in the EU. The tendered project is partially financed by the EU Modernisation Fund and involves companies like OMV Petrom and Complexul Energetic Oltenia. The Commission's efforts aim to reduce dependence on cheaper Chinese wind and solar technologies while promoting economic security through solar power installations.
