Colbún proposes 800 MW ocean-powered pumped storage project in Chile

Pumped hydro (PHES) has long been the dominant energy storage technology worldwide, but batteries are rapidly growing. Colbún plans an 800 MW pumped-storage plant in Chile. The project aims to circulate desalinated water for energy storage. Colbún submitted an environmental impact study for the initiative, making it the first in Latin America with a closed circuit of desalinated water recirculation.
