A European research team studied the upscaling effects of high-temperature heat pumps utilizing an R1233zd(E) refrigerant. They found that the size of the pumps is crucial for the coefficient of performance. The study compared two laboratory-scale HTHPs of different capacities and highlighted the challenges of upscaling. The researchers emphasized the importance of considering component sizing and heat losses in the scaling process. Their work was published in the International Journal of Refrigeration.
