Dutch scientists assess consumers’ willingness to pay for renewable heating

The University of Groningen in the Netherlands conducted a poll on Dutch residents' willingness to pay for low-carbon residential heating systems. The study revealed insights applicable to other European Union countries and the UK. The researchers emphasized the importance of considering consumers' preferences for heating systems in energy transition policies. They used a discrete-choice experiment and a latent-class logit model to analyze participants' preferences for various attributes of heating systems. Dutch households were willing to pay premiums for electricity and hydrogen, but required discounts for district-heating systems. The study also identified socio-economic characteristics influencing individuals' willingness to pay for different heating attributes.
