The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) in Germany has developed a technology known as passivated edge technology (PET) to enhance the performance of shingled solar cells. Their studies demonstrate that PET can improve the pseudo-fill factor (pFF) of modules without affecting the quality of their interconnections. This advancement may help reduce losses at the module level and enhance the overall performance of shingle solar modules. A patent for the PET technology was filed in 2018, and Fraunhofer ISE has initiated collaborations with industry partners like Solaria for further testing.
