Enel starts up 87MW Italian solar plant

Enel Green Power has started up an 87MW solar plant in the province of Vercelli, in Italy’s Piedmont region. The project involved the construction of a photovoltaic plant that uses bifacial PV modules integrated with a 25MW lithium ion battery energy storage system. The storage capacity is 100MWh, providing ancillary services to the grid. Enel Green Power launched a crowdfunding campaign called Scelta Rinnovabile (Renewable Choice) in 2022, which was funded by local residents to support the solar and battery project. The relationship with the local community is significant, with initiatives like reforestation and historic building restoration planned in the area surrounding the solar farm.
