Energy storage de-rating factor cut in Poland capacity market ‘created an opportunity’

The de-rating factor for energy storage bidding into the next capacity market auction in Poland has been slashed from 95% in the last two previous auctions to 61%. This change has potential positives for the market, according to project developers and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) who participated in the 'Building the Pipeline: Capacity Market Auctions in Poland' panel discussion. Both NGEN and Harmony Energy Poland executives see it as an opportunity to rethink strategies. Greenvolt was a significant winner in recent capacity market auctions. There are indications that energy storage is being put on par with gas in terms of pricing. The regulatory changes have brought the industry closer to network operators for collaborative efforts.
