Energy Vault and municipality developing gravity-plus-BESS project at coal mine in Italy

Energy Vault and Carbosulcis in Sardinia, Italy signed an agreement for a Hybrid Gravity Energy Storage System in a coal mine shaft. The project aims to aid industrial and economic development by repurposing the mine into a Carbon Free Technology Hub. The solution combines gravity energy storage tech with BESS technology and water-based pumped hydro application. First modular gravity components installation to start in September 2024.
