Europe adds 6.4GW of wind in H1 2024

Europe added 6400MW of new onshore and offshore wind capacity in the first half of 2024. During this period, Germany built 1.7GW, France built 1.2GW, and Spain built 876MW. The EU-27 now has 225GW of wind capacity. Wind turbine orders are up by 11% in Europe. 19.7GW of new wind capacity was awarded in auctions in the first half of 2024, pointing to the EU having 350GW capacity by 2030. Challenges include the bottleneck in electricity grids and high costs.
