European Commission publishes new recommendations for renewables permitting and installation

The European Commission has published new recommendations to encourage faster permitting and installation of renewable power projects within the EU. These recommendations include speeding up the permit-granting process and fast-tracking project approvals. The EC also advocates for more harmonised and efficient auctions to attract new investments in the European power space, and for community-owned renewable projects to have simplified permitting processes. The solar sector could benefit from allowing project applicants to update technology specifications and implementing simplified permit-granting procedures for small-scale renewables and renewable prosumers.
