Mexhiti hints at delaying North Macedonia’s coal exit until 2050

North Macedonia aims to end the use of coal in the energy sector by 2050. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Izet Mexhiti emphasized the need for strong financial and technical support. The government is considering postponing the deadline for phasing out coal-fired power plants by 20 years. Mexhiti called for assistance from the United States and the EU to accelerate the energy transition and ensure energy independence.
