Floating photovoltaics may significantly reduce water evaporation at Aswan dam

The study explores the installation of floating photovoltaics (FPV) on the Aswan High Dam Reservoir, analyzing benefits in power generation and evaporation reduction over 2005–2016. Different FPV coverage scenarios, up to 90%, could save significant amounts of water while substantially contributing to Egypt's energy supply. The analysis, involving contributions from research teams in Germany and the US, presents implications for reservoir management and irrigation.
