Fraunhofer ISE developing propane heat pumps for multi-family homes

Fraunhofer ISE leads a consortium to optimize propane heat pump systems for existing multi-family homes in Germany. The LC R290 project aims to implement heat pump pilot projects in residential buildings using gas or oil heating. Challenges include dealing with gas heating systems in individual apartments, especially in the low-rent segment. Different heat pump concepts with varying performance metrics are being developed.
