German initiative to develop scalable sodium-ion batteries

A consortium led by Varta has launched the ENTISE project aimed at developing a new sodium-ion battery technology. The project, funded with €7.5 million from Germany's Federal Ministry of Research and Education, involves partnerships between 15 companies and universities to create cost-effective, environmentally friendly batteries. Expected to complete by mid 2027, the initiative targets advancements in the energy and mobility sectors, addressing the sustainable and safe attributes of sodium versus lithium.
