Germany launches 33 kW prototype highway PV system

German Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing visited the first PV system to cover Autobahn 81 at the Hegau-Ost service area in Germany. The PV system installation is a collaborative research effort supported by participating research institutes from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The PV roof area, supplied by Solarwatt, has a total output of 33 kW. The Federal Ministry of Transport highlighted the benefits of solar rooftops over motorways for achieving climate neutrality. Legislation is being implemented to expedite and simplify the expansion of PV on and near motorways.
