Germany’s Uniper and NGEN to deploy 100MWh BESS at retiring coal plant

Uniper and NGEN are partnering to install a 50MW/100MWh BESS at the Heyden coal power plant site in Petershagen, Germany. NGEN, based in Slovenia, specializes in energy storage solutions using Tesla Megapacks. The companies aim to have the battery system operational by 2025. NGEN will open an office in Frankfurt as part of its expansion into Germany. Uniper, aiming to be carbon-neutral by 2040, is converting its legacy gas plants to alternative gases like hydrogen and biomethane.
