Greece suspends electricity imports until May 7 to protect system

The Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) of Greece is suspending all electricity imports at peak times until May 7, except for a limited amount from Bulgaria. This measure is due to excessive renewable energy production exceeding demand, driving prices down in the day-ahead market and causing curtailments. The situation is exacerbated by traditionally low demand during the Easter period and increased imports from Bulgaria when prices are more favorable there.
