A record-breaking heat dome in May led to stark contrast in irradiance patterns across North America. Western and central USA, Mexico had higher than normal irradiance, while Gulf and East Coast faced lower irradiance. Mexico and Central American states are undergoing a record-breaking heat wave due to a persistent heat dome. Heat dome over Gulf of Mexico resulted in hot conditions, reaching nearly 130% of climatological averages. In Southeastern USA and East Coast, wind and stormy weather led to lower than average irradiance levels. Strong polar jet stream in Western USA created favorable conditions with higher than normal irradiance. Solcast uses AI/ML algorithms to track clouds and aerosols globally.
