Heat pumps, electric cars expected to contribute little to power demand growth in Greece

Heat pumps and electric cars play a significant role in achieving net zero emissions in Greece and the European Union. HEDNO published scenarios up to 2030 addressing electricity demand, primarily focusing on the electrification of transportation and heating. The grid is prepared for accommodating electric cars and heat pumps. Different scenarios are analyzed based on electric car sales targets and potential demand from various sectors. Heat pumps are estimated to have a modest impact on electricity demand due to their substitution of other heating systems. The article discusses the exclusion of a specific scenario due to postponement of the internal combustion engine phaseout.
