Helen is building Europe’s largest electric boiler plant and thermal battery storage project in Helsinki, Finland. The project includes 50 MW electric boilers powered by nuclear and renewable electricity. The heat storage facility will have two 40-meter-high heat batteries with a total capacity of 1,000 MWh. Juhani Aaltonen, VP of green investments at Helen, mentioned the efficient exploitation of the electricity market volatility. The plant will operate in Hanasaari, replacing a coal-fired power plant. Germany’s MAN Energy Solutions is supplying a 33 MW air-to-water heat pump for a district-heating complex.
