Researchers from Italy's University of Naples Federico II explored the feasibility of establishing renewable energy communities in seaports. By creating a numerical model based on EU regulations, they focused on the Port of Naples, achieving high self-consumption and low life cycle costs. Through the electrification of end-use and shared renewable energy projects, ports can become renewable energy hubs, potentially supplying surplus energy to surrounding communities.
