A group of scientists at the University of New South Wales in Australia investigated the feasibility of using hydrogen-fueled reciprocating engines for PV-powered hydrogen in gas-to-power and power-to-gas operations. The study proposed a system with a large-scale PV facility, proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, a compressor, pressurized hydrogen storage unit, and a hydrogen-fueled reciprocating generator for renewable base-load power generation.
