Researchers at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom have designed a cadmium telluride (CdTe) solar cell with a nickel oxide (NiO) buffer layer, improving the device's open-circuit voltage. The NiO layer acts as an efficient electron reflector, reducing interface recombination and increasing the open-circuit voltage. The research was published in the Royal Society of Chemistry.
